Mr. Md. Obaidur Rahman joined as the Secretary of Ministry of Industries on 24 February 2025. Prior to that, he was an Additional Secretary of Appointment, Promotion and Deputation Wing of Ministry of Public Administration. Mr. Rahman is a member of 15th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre). He started his career as an Assistant Commissioner in District Administration, Patuakhali. Subsequently, He worked as Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Panchgarh, Bagerhat & Narail District, served as Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Narayanganj, Netrokona & Khulna District and worked as the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Bagerhat District. This long and diverse experience in various posts of field administration enriched him with deep understanding about the common people of our country. In between he worked and earned a reputation as trainer at Land Administration Training Center (LATC). He also served as secretary at Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA). His career reflects a consistent dedication to good governance, transparency, and capacity building within public institutions.

Mr. Rahman is considered one of the finest expert on Intellectual Property among the bureaucrats of our country. He worked as Assistant registrar and Deputy Registrar at the Department of Patent Design and Trademark (DPDT) under ministry of Industries for about seven years. During his time at DPDT, he played a key role in strengthening the institutional framework for intellectual property (IP) protection in Bangladesh and enhancing public awareness about IPR enforcement, innovation, and technology transfer. His efforts contributed significantly to aligning Bangladesh’s IP regime with international standards and supporting the country’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy.

Mr. Rahman is widely respected as an intellectual property specialist, speaker, and mentor. He takes regular sessions at reputed training institutions like BIM, BIAM, BITAC, BSCIC Training Institute (Former SCITI) and various conference and workshops arranged by the professional organizations like DCCI, FBCCI, BAPI etc. His professional insights and policy initiatives continue to inspire innovation and enterprise development across Bangladesh’s industrial landscape.

Mr Rahman is a man of Magura and his academic foundation was built there. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Management from the University of Dhaka. He took various training home and abroad on IPR, Good Governance and so on. In his professional duties he visited USA, Australia, China, India, Sweden, Japan, France, Netherlands, Singapore, Indonesia and few other countries and earned invaluable professional experience.

As Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Mr. Rahman continues to play a pivotal role in steering national industrial policy towards achieving competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusive growth. Under his dynamic leadership, the Ministry is undertaking strategic initiatives to strengthen the country’s industrial base, foster entrepreneurship, and create an enabling environment for investment and technological advancement.

On a personal note, he is married and blessed with two sons.

জনাব মোঃ আবুল কালাম আজাদ,এসিএস বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশ ইস্পাত ও প্রকৌশল করপোরেশন (বিএসইসি) এর নিয়ন্ত্রনাধীন প্রগতি ইন্ডাষ্ট্রিজ লিমিটেড (পিআইএল) এর ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক (ভারপ্রাপ্ত) হিসেবে ১১-০৫-২০২৩ তারিখ হতে নিয়োজিত রয়েছেন। তিনি পিআইএল পরিচালনা পরিষদের ও একজন সদস্য।

তিনি সততায় সাথে বিগত ১৮/০৫/২০২১ তারিখ হতে ১১/০৫/২০২৩ তারিখ পর্যন্ত ইস্টার্ণ ক্যাবলস লিমিটেড (ইসিএল) এর ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক (ভারপ্রাপ্ত) হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। ইসিএল এ কর্মকালীন সময়ে তিনি এটিকে অলাভজনক থেকে লাভজনক প্রতিষ্ঠানের পরিনত করেন এবং বিশাল অংকের ব্যাংক ঋণকে কমিয়ে আনেন। ইসিএল এর উৎপাদিত পণ্য বিক্রয়ে মার্কেটে অভূতপূর্ব সাড়া তৈরী করতে সক্ষম হন । এছাড়া, ইসিএল এর উৎপাদিত পণ্য চীনের রপ্তানীর মাধ্যমে বিপুল বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা অর্জন করেন।

তিনি ২০০৬ সালে বাংলাদেশ ইস্পাত ও প্রকৌশল করপোরেশন এর চাকুরিতে প্রবেশ করেন। প্রথমে তিনি বিএসইসি’র অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠান এটলাস বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেড (এবিএল) এ ২০০৬ থেকে ২০১৮ সালের আগস্ট পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপুর্ন পদে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এবিএল এ কর্মকালীন সময়ে তিনি হিসাব বিভাগীয় প্রধান এবং এবিএল ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ এর লিস্টেড কোম্পানি হওয়ায় কোম্পানি সচিব পদে দক্ষতা, সুনাম, সততা ও সফলতার সাথে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

তিনি ২০১৮ সালের আগস্টে করপোরেশন এর অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠান ন্যাশনাল টিউবস লিমিটেড (এনটিএল) এ বদলি হন। এনটিএল এ কর্মকালীন সময়ে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ এর লিস্টেড কোম্পানি হওয়ায় কোম্পানি সচিব হিসেবে যথেষ্ঠ মেধা, দক্ষতা ও যোগ্যতার স্বাক্ষর রাখেন এবং সুনাম, সততাও সফলতার সাথে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

জনাব মোঃ আবুল কালাম আজাদ ১৯৭৯ সালে পাবনা জেলার সুজানগর উপজেলার সাতবাড়িয়া ইউনিয়নের কুড়িপাড়া গ্রামের এক সম্ভ্রান্ত মুসলিম পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তিনি সাতবাড়িয়া উচ্চ বিদ্যালয় থেকে এসএসসি, ঢাকা কলেজ থেকে এইচএসসি এবং জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এর হিসাব বিজ্ঞান বিভাগ থেকে স্নাতক(সম্মান)ও স্নাতকোত্তর সম্পন্ন করেন।

তিনি ইনিস্টিটিউট অব চার্টার্ড সেক্রেটারিজ অব বাংলাদেশ (আইসিএসবি) থেকে চার্টার্ড সেক্রেটারি প্রফেশনাল ডিগ্রী অর্জন করেন।

জনাব মোঃ আবুল কালাম আজাদ এবিএল এ চাকুরিকালীন সময়ে ব্যবসায়িক দ্বিপাক্ষীক আলোচনার উদ্দেশ্যে চীন সফর করেন এবং পিআইএল হতে ব্যবসায়িক উদ্দেশ্যে ও দ্বিপাক্ষীক চুক্তির জন্য কিয়া মটরস, দক্ষিণ কোরিয়া এবং মিৎসুবিশি মরটস করপোরেশন, জাপান ভিজিট করেন। এছাড়া তিনি বাংলাদেশ পাবলিক এডমিনিসট্রেশন ট্রেইনিং সেন্টার (বিপিএটিসি), সেন্টার ফর ট্যাক্স ট্রেইনিং এ্যন্ড রিচার্স (সিটিটিআর), এনপিও, এপিও, ডিএসই, সিএসডিএফ প্রভৃতি প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে প্রশিক্ষন গ্রহণ এবং সেমিনারে অংশ গ্রহণ করেছেন। কর্মজীবনের পাশাপাশি তিনি বিভিন্ন ধর্মীয় ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নমূলক কর্মকান্ডের সাথে জড়িত রয়েছেন।

তিনি ব্যবসায় বাণিজ্য ও সমাজ সেবায় বিশেষ অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরুপ এশিয়ান বিজনের পাটনারশীপ হতে ‘মহাত্ম গান্ধী পীস এ্যাওয়ার্ড-২০২২’ প্রাপ্ত হন।

ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে তিনি বিবাহিত। তার স্ত্রী জনাবা ফয়জুননেছা একজন সরকারি চাকুরিজীবি। তিনি দুইপুত্র সন্তানের জনক।

ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক জনাব মোঃ আবুল কালাম আজাদ রাষ্ট্রায়াত্ব প্রতিষ্ঠান প্রগতি ইন্ডাষ্ট্রিঝ লিমিটেড-কে আরো সমৃদ্ধ ও শক্তিশালী এবং লাভজনক প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে পরিচালনার জন্য দেশের সকল মন্ত্রনালয়ের অধীন দপ্তর, অধিদপ্তর, সংস্থা ও প্রতিষ্ঠান-কে এগিয়ে আসার আহবান জানান। প্রগতির তৈরী গাড়ী ব্যবহার ও ক্রয় নিশ্চিতকরণে সকল মন্ত্রনালয় এবং সংশিষ্ট বিভাগ সমূহসহ সরকারি-বেসরকারি সকলের একান্ত সহযোগিতা কামনা করেন।
